Reading Cycling Forum
On behalf of Reading Cycle Campaign Committee I would like to
invite you to the inaugural Reading Cycling Forum, to be held on
Friday 16th September at 7:00 pm in the Coley Park Community Centre, Wensley
Road, Coley, Reading.
The Campaign committee was tasked by its members at its AGM to set
up a forum for all people in Reading with an interest in cycling.
The objective is More People on More Bikes More Often.
Despite Reading Cycle Campaign being one of the largest in Britain
(it has nearly 600 members, and ranks 4th using membership as a
measure) and having been going for more than 25 years, we feel that
Reading is slipping behind other towns and cities in getting people
cycling. Our members have asked us to tackle this!
We are aware that there is a thriving cycling scene, we know that
there is already a great interest in cycling, but compared with
other towns we have a dearth of community led initiatives. By
bringing everyone together to share ideas and initiatives we think
we can make Reading a more vibrant cycling town.
The purpose of the inaugural meeting is to see what we can do
together, and to identify what key things we can do to get more
people on bikes.
This is all about making a difference ourselves, not hoping
somebody else will do it for us.
Although Reading Cycle Campaign is hosting the meeting, it doesn't
want to set the agenda. If you want something to happen, share it,
the hope is that we will find people who can collaborate to make it
happen!
Only one proviso though, it must fit with the theme, More People
on More Bikes More Often!
Please let your fellow cyclists know about this, they are invited
too!
It is hoped that we will meet regularly in future.
If you are coming, and you know others who are, perhaps you could
let me know. We will be providing handmade biscuits and would like
to know how many to bake!
Adrian Lawson
Chairman, Reading Cycle Campaign.
