Cycle Strategy

Reading Borough Council formally adopted a new Cycling Strategy in October 2008. The strategy sets out the borough's plans for improving and encouraging cycling over the coming years and focuses on improved training for schoolchildren and the creation of a branded 'premier cycle route' network. A copy of the strategy can be found by following this link

Cycle Liaison Group Meetings

The Reading Cycle Campaign meets with leading councillors and RBC transport officers every 3 months (April, July, October, January) to discuss cycling issues in Reading. Topics discussed recently have included the new Reading cycle map, branding of cycle routes and the use of cycle audits for new highway schemes, as well as plans for specific junction works such as the signalisation of Norcot roundabout. For further information or suggestions contact us via RBC mail address.

Cow Lane Saved for cyclists

Strong lobbying of local councillors and MPs by Reading Cycle Campaign pays off. Network Rail announce their preferred option for track realignment will be a rail flyover, thus saving Cow Lane from being closed and denying residents of West Reading easy cycle and pedestrian access to the Rivermead, the Thames and Caversham. Plans now include the widening of Cow Lane bridges. Press release from Martin Salter.

Oxford Road Study Area

Reading Cycle Campaign has called on the Council to provide on-carriageway cycle lanes on Oxford Road in response to the Council’s study of the Oxford Road Area. We submitted our suggestions and comments in March 2008. Click click here to see our full submission.

Crap Cycle Lanes

A book published by Warrington Cycle Campaign features (probably) 50 worst cycle lanes in Britain. Local authorities are named and shamed, Reading (the very short Oxford Road cycle lane) has one entry in this book. You can get this book at Amazon or Eye books.
